Geraniums In Bloom

From the window at my desk I can see the geraniums in bloom. Big red and pink pom poms of spring color. It’s fantastic. Nothing makes me feel like spring has arrived like the geraniums blooming. Any day now my tiny pink cloud roses should begin opening. They look like tiny porcelain baby roses perched on delicate green foliage. It’s really beautiful. I think when we move I’ll probably miss that the most, my roses. The geraniums will make the trip… they’ve been grown from cuttings that we received as gifts, too special to leave behind.

My lazy dog (the chaweiner, 1/2 chahuahua 1/2 “weiner dog”) Zander, is dozing out in the sun. He’s like the girls in the family (how the guys would cringe to read that) - poor Zander gets cold easily and spends the winter months curled under a blanket at the end of my son’s bed, only making the rare trip outside to take care of business. Not today though, today he’s happily dozing in the warm sunshine, another indicator that the warmer weather has finally arrived.

The rooster (yes, we have a pet rooster) Nero - is happily clucking through the ivy in search of spring treats. He’s very pretty this time of year with brilliant red and green feathers and a bright red comb. He likes the warmer weather as well. His mangled foot (healed, but I’m sure it’s arthritic) doesn’t care much for the cold weather, having a bad ankle myself I completely sympathize with our grumpy bird.

There is a happy spring breeze blowing through the new, bright green leaves in the chinese elm outside. The sky is a beautiful, true, sky blue with puffy, white clouds. The only thing that could improve this day is if it were Saturday and then the entire family would be home enjoying it.
