Target, Bonanza, and Hell Hath No Fury…
I think I am on the downside of this cold, finally. Even with a head cold I’ve been out almost every day this week getting the rest of the things I need for Christmas Day dinner.
On Tuesday I was at Target. I got up to the counter with all of my stuff and when the checkout girl got to the Robitussin she asked for my ID. I swear all I could think about was Bonanza’s post about her Target Experience, it was all I could do to keep from letting out an evil giggle. In fact, I was so preoccupied with the thought that I handed the girl my ATM card instead of my ID. She looked at me as if I’d lost my mind and politely asked for my ID again… that’s about the time I became paranoid she was about to hit the “button” summoning security. She started mumbling something about “that new law…” and I just decided it was best to let it lie.
Speaking of Bonanza, she was kind enough to nominate me for a Best of Blogs Best Mommy Blog award.
I was extremely shocked to see that because I certainly don’t consider this blog to be the best of anything… in fact I regularly find blogs that make me ashamed to even have my own blog. ;o)
Still, thanks a bunch, Bonanza!
Today the appliance repair guy is coming out to fix our oven. It’s not acting right and two of the burners need new strikers. Can you imagine having your oven decide to go on the fritz just days before Christmas? My husband is the “Meat King” of holiday feasts which means there is A LOT of roasting going on in this house on Christmas Day. I keep having recurring nightmares that the guys shows up, pulls my oven into the middle of the kitchen, disables it completely and has to order the freaking parts from God knows where, thus leaving me ovenless for Christmas.
So, the oven is on the fritz, the roof is leaking in several places, and the septic system is planning a revolt. I think the house is really pissed that we are having a new house built. The person who said, “Hell hath no fury…” referring to women, obviously never had a new house built. Our house is like some jilted woman screaming, “WHAT!?!?!? I’m NOT good enough for you?!?!? I’ve given you the best years of MY LIFE!!!!!”
Which would totally not be true… because the best years of this house’s life were undoubtedly in the 50’s and 60’s I’ve heard tales from older neighbors that this neighborhood used to be quite the swingin’ place with regular huge blockparties where there was no shortage of alcohol and mayhem. And this is from a neighbor in his 70’s (who I swear does not look a day older than 55) who a few years ago got completely ripped at the county fair and ended up spending over $5,000.00 on a covered redwood deck, bar and spa for his backyard. He woke up the next morning with a massive hangover and a crew of guys in his backyard hammering away on his new purchase. His wife loves telling this story complete with the “you got what you deserved, you moron” look in his direction every time she tells it.
One thing this house has no shortage of is memories and there are a lot of them here. You know what? I’ll cherish the memories, always, but I am not going to miss this house… not one damn, little bit!

Dear Amy,
Wow — I was still editing my last post on my blog when you commented (I had published before I realized I wasn’t through). That was quick!!!
Hope you’re feeling mucho better!
LOL at your Target experience. Been there.
Don’t be shocked about your blog being nominated. Your blog is awesome - you deserve it!
Sounds like your house and mine are in cahoots. Only you’ve got a new house being built — we don’t — arrggghhh!
Merry Christmas!
Very truly yours,
EB

Empress Baggie I am feeling better, thank you for asking. There is just this leftover congestion which is annoying.
I have to stick it out with this house until the end of March… sure hope I can make it. LOL
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!
Mergrl Thank you very much!! I think a lot of Bonanza so it meant a lot that she nominated me. I couldn’t really care less if I win or not. :o)

Hi Amy,
Well, as it is FINALLY my last day at work (its friday afternoon in the UK!), I will wish you a very merry christmas and happy new year (I don’t have a pc at home, so won’t be able to wish it on the day). I got asked if I wanted a child or adult ticket for the cinema yesterday and I’m 28 - I didn’t know whether to be offended or flattered! So instead I made a passing judgement on the young girl’s eyesight/intelligence!
I think your blog is great and definitely deserves nomination. I really hope your oven holds out for you, have a great time with your family.
SO. x

Hey… YOU DESERVED IT. :) I would MUCH rather read about your family in the way you write it that 99.999999999% of the other Mommy blogs out there. And sorry if you didn’t want to be a Mommy blog!

Bonanza Thank you very much! It was such a great surprise to see my blog nominated and to know that one of the bloggers I admire most nominated me. ;o) I really don’t have a problem being a “mommy blog” - I just have a fear of being looped in with the pink bunny, yellow ducky blogs. ;o)

Awwww! So cute! When I was growing up, our middle names were used when we were in trouble.
January 5, 2006 @ 7:43 am
LOL! They’re both adorable!

Zube! Thanks. We were the same way growing up… I knew if I heard “Amy Nicole…” that I was going to be in for it. LOL Around here it’s the same way. ;o) Although, my sister and Kate have the same middle name (spelled differently) and so when you hear “LeAnne!!!!” both of them jump and look around!
marti Thanks… I wish they were as well-behaved as they are cute. ;o)
