Waterfowl vs. Reptiles… The Waterfowl Wins.
Came down with a little cough this weekend and decided to just take it easy, hence my little vanishing act. Many thanks to my previous tenant, Zube Girl, who as you probably know now, absolutely rocks.
I love three day weekends. Mike had the whole weekend off and we actually watched a movie, went out to eat with all three kids and… slept. We napped, we snacked and we napped some more. It was great. With all that resting it gave me the opportunity to think about some things.
I’ve decided that the Aflac duck is my favorite commercial mascot. I used to think the gecko from Geico was pretty cute… but there is no comparison to the duck. I came to this realization when I saw the latest Aflac commercial done in a ’silent movie’ style… at the end the Aflac duck is hit by a train. For a split second, I was shocked, horrified and almost began to grieve. It was then that it hit me, the duck is my favorite. I was beyond happy to see him appearing to quack (it was silent) riding on the front of the train.
Plus… he sounds like Gilbert Gottfried (is it possible that Gilbert does the voice?) and I am not afraid to admit that I love Gilbert Gottfried.
The gecko is a distant second and the damn, stupid, freaky Burger King “King” is dead last. I am not afraid to admit that he scares me. When I saw the commercial with him standing there, silently, in the forest, I freaked. In fact, it has actually deterred me from going to Burger King, and I’m fairly certain that was NOT the intention of the commercial.
Lose the King and I might go back to Whoppers. Until then, I’m avoiding Burger King and wishing that Aflac had a drive through with decent, low carb, food.

LOVE the duck myself. I get all excited when then Aflac guy comes to work because his computer has all these neat duck-related thingys on it. VERY COOL.

Crazy Lady Some of those commercials have made me laugh so freaking hard. Have to admit though, my all time favorite commercial is the one with Jerry Seinfeld when he looks into the gas tank and says, “Release the hounds!”

Dude…the King is FREAKY. He gives me the creeps, too. Geckos and Ducks aside…I LOVE that Geico commercial where the dorky guy does the robot.

An AFLAC rep gave my husband a stuffed duck that when squeezed does the entire AFLAC chant. Very cute!

Pajama Mama I agree. And, it’s odd, because I haven’t heard ANYTHING good about it… you’d think that it might get back to them that people hate their new marketing strategy, you know?

Kentucky Girl Amen! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who thought that thing was freaky. The play on King Kong was really bad, but that one in the forest nearly gave me a panic attack. LOL
Chatty I’d love to know where to get one of those. LOL I have a thing for odd characters. I have a Zowie (from Rolie Polie Olie) sitting on my desk and… Ichabod Crane (from Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow). I’m a freak. LOL
Delite *sigh* I’ve got another 3 years to go before our youngest goes to school. But I do remember the three day weekends you speak of… those were nice. ;o)

Not a TV watcher these days, but yep: the AFLAC duck is one of the best ideers to come down the ad pike.
My three favs are the duck’s original ad; the duck vs Yogi Berra; and the duck choreograph swimming with the womens’ team.

Love Jimmy! LOVE! Darn it all, now I am going to be singing his theme song in my head all afternoon. I am sort of a Carl fan myself. How could you just not want to pinch those round cheeks until they are so rosy they glow.
