The First Week… School Year 2006-07

The school year is off to a roaring start, guys.

The high school called to make sure that my brother, GJ, and Ethan were still enrolled. It seems that there was a final “blue” schedule they were supposed to pick up an hour before school started.. except, no one told them this. I’m wondering why they needed to go to school last week to pick up their schedule?

Yesterday, the high school insisted that they lost Ethan’s physical form from his doctor. Turns out they just overlooked it in the file.

Oh yeah, Ethan has developed shin splints and is now fearing that he might miss out on the varsity spot this year. We feel awful for him.

Kate was put in a 5th/6th grade combo class without our permission. The teacher had never taught 6th grade, told the kids she would be learning along with them, then proceeded to start the year of normally for her 5th graders and leave the 6th graders dangling. In addition to this there was the humiliation of these 12 6th graders having to sit with ALL the 5th graders at lunch and having to attend a 5th grade assembly.

Not good.

We talked to the principal yesterday, called back today and Kate has now been moved to a regular 6th grade class starting tomorrow. Poor kid.

Aside from all of this typical drama, Ethan loves high school and it looks like it is going to be a really great year.

Mike and I are exhausted. We’ve been trying to play “Super Parents” since last weekend. We’ve been up every morning fixing breakfast, taking everyone to school, then back here working until it’s time to pick them up… and usually finishing up loose work ends until midnight almost every night.

The good news is that the new business - is going great!!!!!!

One of the things I love about you is that you are the kind of person who calls the school and says “Uh… no… my daughter is in 6th grade. Thank you.”

There’s just not enough parents like that left in the world. “super parents”, indeed.

That’s cool that he likes high school, and I used to hate the split classes. They sucked.

Glad about the business going well…keep on rockin’ girl!

Shin splints suck hard…I had them bad and was in track. Lots of ice on ‘em, don’t run or train on dirt if possible, and if he has access to a cold whirlpool have him just set his legs in it on a daily basis if possible.

We start school a week from today. This is the very 1st time that all 3 will be in school. We started doing a “dry run” last night for getting to bed on time. So far, it doesn’t look promising.

LOL…looks like I’m not the only one whose kids are in ‘whacko’ ISD’s. K had to take summer school, after they said she would be in the 10th. Went last week to get her schedule, it had she was a freshman, called counsler, she says, ‘No, she’s a soph’. K’s 1st day, she’s in a freshman homeroom, but in her first class, she’s listed as being a 10th grader. Needless to say, ‘SuperMom’ went up to school and straightened it out….jeez…idiots!

Fix breakfast?? If it doesn’t come in a box and is poured in a bowl you ain’t getting it at my house!!
Mine also get to go to school via the big yellow taxi that stops every morning, even if it is the “bus of hell” it gets them where they need to be..muahaha

    Ain’t motherhood grand? LOL

I feel for ya darlin’. Things seem to be screwed up everywhere. We’ve had such an influx of students that the big bulletin board out by the street, that usually announces stuff like when registration is, has a big Help Wanted ad for teachers on it! Uh, yeah, I’m sure there are a lot of unemployed teachers just cruisin’ the streets lookin’ for outdoor bulletin boards to find a job!
    (And if they are…ewww!)

can you hear my evil laughter from here? :-)

Someday, when I come visit you (which I will, someday… watch out) - you’re going to have to show me this whole sushi thing. I don’t think I should do sushi in IA.

When Harry Ate Sally I’ve watched a zillion times.

Wait, Most Haunted is in AMERICA?? I love that show? Is the psychic Derek or is it an American?

You are awesome for saying How I Met Your Mother. I was just saying yesterday how that show is my guilty pleasure.
The one where Ted met Buttercup/his future girlfriend at the wedding — classsic!

Miss Britt LOL, I’ll look forward to it. And, no, I don’t think I would do Sushi in IA. But, I do highly recommend it… there are few things that wasabi and soy sauce can’t cure. ;)

MrsMogul When Harry Met Sally is so awesome, the soundtrack is amazing too… it was that soundtrack that turned me on to Harry Connick Jr. when I was… geez… 13 I think.

It’s on the Travel Channel here and yes, it’s DEREK… I LOVE him!!!! He’s not half-bad looking either… but then, you know, I have a thing for older guys. ;D

The Editor I loved Ashley Williams in those episodes!!! Although, was it just me or did she look pregnant? I have to admit to also loving Good Morning Miami… the cast was freaking hilarious, right down to Suzanne Pleshette(sp.)!

Marti Me too! Although, sometimes, I don’t mind doing them if I can come up with creative answers.

I don’t know about interesting… but it’s been something. LOL

I’m sorry for not stopping by more! I hope you are feeling better. Actually I do stop by - I just don’t comment as much as I used to… now that the SlaveMaster is in house full-time.

Ashley Williams did look a little…bigger, but good.
And Good Morning Miami? Suzanne Pleshette was awesome in that.

The Editor I thought she looked cute, but pregnant. LOL She looks great with long hair, too. It’s hard to believe that she and Kimberly Williams-Paisley are sisters!
