About Yesterday
Posted By AmyD. on July 5, 2007
Yesterday was the day that we U.S. citizens celebrate our independence with matches, lighters, explosives, booze and carbsfood. We celebrate our freedoms (even though many are in question and peril these days – can I get an Amen from the crowd?) our victories and the pride in our country. It’s a beautiful thing.
So, let’s talk about freedom, specifically freedom of speech.
Personally, I’m big on it. I’m fairly anti-censorship. If you don’t care for what I write here – click that handy dandy red “X” up there in the corner. From time to time I vent and complain about goings on and I make them sound rather generic although there are a few people out there who do know what I’m talking about when I finally let loose. In fact, I’m willing to bet that there are a couple of people out there who have been waiting for me to do just that. Lurking about here and wondering what I might say and if I’ll name names.
Oh, come now! I don’t think I’m all that. I just know that certain things have gone on offline and certain people might be expecting a lovely rant or ten.
You see, I am not big on judging people. I don’t agree with it and yet, I’m just as guilty as anyone else on the block. I don’t care for people who judge others harshly, cruelly, or just on the basis of a simple personality conflict. Most of the time, I find that people judge others (in an open, public forum) as a means of making themselves feel better about something.
Live and let live… as long as all the parties are consenting adults (or capable of being charged as one, maybe) and no one is being abused, yadda yadda. I really don’t care. Have at it…
I like a good debate every now and then. I don’t like it when they get ugly or personal. But, I enjoy a good sparring match.
I try to give someone the benefit of the doubt. I don’t look at someone asking advice as being the same as them asking for my opinion on how they choose to live their life. But, hey, that’s just me.
There are obviously more than a few people out here who happily sit at their keyboard whacking their monkeys with one hand and typing away nothing but vile, angry, hatred in the other. There are also more than a few who do the same in real life minus the keyboard, of course.
I heartily support our freedom of speech. I support YOUR freedom of speech even if you are about to say something completely ignorant and without merit or redeeming value whatsoever. I still support your right to speak your piece.
BUT! Here’s the deal, it’s a two-way street, and if you are going to spout off whatever cockamamie, ignorant, uneducated crap that runs through your little mind, then be ready to hear my answers, thoughts, and opinions, even if they don’t agree with yours. Call that basic common courtesy if you will, most decent mothers taught that at one point. I’m sorry if you didn’t get the memo.
What I have found is that the people who refuse to hear both sides or any opposing side of their own viewpoint are doing so out of fear. They are scared to death that what you might say might just cause them to do a double-take or question their own belief system. That’s really the truth, because if push comes to shove and you really believe what you believe with no doubt at all? Then nothing could threaten those beliefs and listening to someone respectfully isn’t going to hurt you or anyone else one little bit.
And so, in this, the wee hours of the morning after, I ask you to remember your rights and respect the rights of others – even if you don’t agree with them.
*Disclaimer – this post was not directed at you, anyone you know, or anyone you think you know. If you think it was directed at you consult your local mirror immediately and think really hard. If you are upset by what you think you read, reread it and see if you still feel the same way. BTW, if you are stupid, ignorant, uneducated, and STILL opinionated, this post does not apply to you, please keep your mouth shut.

This has nothing to do with anything, but I am still a little sleepy, and in the opening paragraph I first read “matches” as “machetes” and I’m thinking “Whoa…where does SHE live?”
Ahem …. I mean Amen ….. I have always thought what you just said as true … Just a couple of weeks ago I had to ( I was told to) rethink the content on my Blog, Its all good though now my saintly little Mother and The outlaws can look…. :dazed:
*sigh*
Of course I was rated NC-17 and still have been tagged as R rated…. The pain of it all, I have tried and tried and I still cant find the last 2 shits on the thing….. :banghead:
Hugs Amy , I love your blog and if it were not for you , avitable and Mr. Fab I would never get to[say]:sex011: period….. Thanks for the good times…

Peace!
Are you talking about me? Do you hate me? You don’t want me to masturbate when I talk to you anymore? Jesus was black! Gasp!
What. the hell. was that?
I have a hard time wrapping my head around the idea that stupid people are free to speak.
Unless they’re apologizing.
:heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat:
Does this me that the Sangria recipe turned out extra shitty??? And you’re pissed at me? Fuck! OK. OK, I will look at it from your point of view. MAYBE, just maybe I am being a little harsh and I should look at the other side of things…
OK, I’ve looked. I still think the Sangria is effing awesome, but if you want to party with rum punch from now on, just say so and share that recipe with me as well.
Love the rant
You are right. You are always right. I bow to your mastery of human understanding, as should all mere mortals and monkey-whackers – lol
Do you get hate mail or stalkers when you post like this? If not plz tell me what you’re doing different from me. If I wrote this, I’d be in hate mail hell…or someone would build another website dedicated to what an stupid, ignorant, uneducated, opinionated asshole I am.
You are obviously doing something wrong.
Probably not. I’ve posted a fuckton of cute lil kitty pictures and it hasn’t helped.
Maybe I could steal pictures of someone else’s kids and claim they’re mine?
PS: You suck for not getting stalkers and hate mail. I plan to send you hate mail and begin stalking you at once.
Love the disclaimer! I did glance in the mirror quickly, but I don’t think it was me!
I nominate you for the award for best use of the word “cockamamie” in a sentence.
Lately I have come to the realisation that stupid, ignorant people will always exist, and I will try to be as tolerant as you, but it’s just so hard!!!
I really wish I knew what the hell was going on here.
ok ok ok So I too, like Avi, thought this was about me. I mean I got all pissy and waxed political over that crap with Scooter. I was feeling bad and looking over American Greetings for a free “Sorry I pissed you off” card when rational thoughts took over and I realized… You don’t even know I have a fuggin blog!
So my second thought was it had to be Avi… but I know of him (Fab says he makes some kick ass cookies) and so do many others that read your stuff, sooooo that rules him out too. I think I have to agree with your take on free speech and the right to make moronic opinions known to the world. Especially when they only express the opinion they hold and don’t even try to express the opinions or beliefs they not only don’t hold but have never heard of, nor thought of, (the dumb pricks) when free speeching. But I just want to add, if you don’t want to know things like “do these pants make my ass look big?” you shouldn’t ask. That’s my opinion anyway.
