Top Movies #15 - 11

Overall my top 20 list is a mixed bag. Kinda schizophrenic, I think and not entirely representative of all the movies I like or appreciate. But, ultimately, these are the movies that I would really watch over and over again or at special times of the year, things like that.

#15 - A Christmas Story
I never get tired of “and now Black Bart you get yours!” or “Fra-GEE-lee, I think that’s Italian!” it doesn’t matter if we have already watched it once in December, when TNT plays it over and over again on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day that is the only channel our television is on. Christmas Day would not be the same without waking up to A Christmas Story.

#14 - Best In Show
Oh, how I loooove Christopher Guest.

#13 - High Spirits
Peter O’Toole is stinking hilarious. Beverly D’Angelo is stingingly bitchy. Ghosts, annoying tourists, and a rundown haunted castle, it’s cheesy, silly, oh-so 80’s with an unknown and much younger Liam Neeson. I just get a kick out of this movie and it (almost) never gets old. This is really one of the movies I pull out in October it’s got that Halloween feel to it.

#12 - Christmas Vacation

It never gets old, really. The nasty inlaws, creepy cousin Eddie, overdone Christmas decorations and a major holiday melt down. This is a family favorite. Unfortunately, it also causes Mike to go around the house saying, “Shitter’s full!”

#11 - A Christmas Carol
This would be the 1999 TNT version with Patrick Stewart and Richard E. Grant. My mom loves the Albert Finney musical version. I do as well, but for a non-musical, adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel, this one is wonderful and never fails to bring a tear to my eye in a good way.

Ok, so now do me a favor and head over to Avitable’s to read my guest post. Thanks!

I’ve only seen Christmas Story once and found it decent. Christmas Vacation is funny, but I like Vacation and European Vacation better. I do love Best in Show. Never seen the rest.

I’ve only seen one of these movies - again.

How is it we have such vastly different tastes in movies?

It must be the fall theme on your blog…Christmas is definitely in the air with this list!

I prefer the 1938 version of A Christmas Carol. Have you seen the 1979 version starring Henry Winkler as Ebenezer Scrooge? It is An American Christmas Carol.

“he was a big, burly man”

RW - is it that obvious?

Avitable - See, I’m not a big fan of the other vacation movies.

    Miss B - Which one?

Trish - I have seen the 1938 version, that was a long time ago though… and no, I haven’t seen the version with Henry Winkler. Although, I do love Scrooged with Bill Murray.

    Christmas Vacation.

I mean, obviously I’ve seen multiple versions of A Christmas Carol too - but I couldn’t tell you which one.

Hmm, here I thought it would be A Christmas Story.

Yeah, well, I told you I’m not a big movie person, so it would stand to reason that I probably have different movie choices. LOL

And Oh! When they do the 24 hours of A Christmas Story…that’s the only thing we watch too! Love it

I forgot all about High Spirits, I too have seen that movie.

Here in Cleveland, A Christmas Story is played non-stop from October through January. A lot of it was filmed here and it was based here and someone even bought the house that it was filmed in and turned it into a museum and shop dedicated to selling things like Leg Lamps.
