Pulling A Grizwold

Posted By AmyD. on November 27, 2007

A fun, old-fashioned, Christmas can only be had if one takes the time to decorate properly. This includes lighting up your house so that it can be seen by every passing airplane and satellite. The day after Thanksgiving Mike made a trip to our storage unit and dragged out all the Christmas totes.

We started in the front yard with new icicle lights that actually shimmer, a vast improvement from last year’s solid icicle light strings. Then we arranged the decorations and added in some new items as well. We still haven’t decorated the truck yet… but that is coming this weekend. Santa in the front seat and a giant reindeer popping out of a giant present in the back! I can’t wait *squeee*!!!!

From there I moved into the house which took a great deal of time on Saturday to accomplish. Sunday we got our Christmas tree from none other than, Mike’s Tree Lot, the name is probably part of the reason that Mike really hoped we’d find “the” tree there. I consider myself to be a pretty picky tree picker (say that three times fast) and felt that something was very wrong with the world when we not only had to stop at just ONE lot, but only needed to go through maybe 5 trees to find the right one. Given that Mike (tree lot owner) was helping us out and he handpicks his stock (and also considers himself to be a picky tree picker) it should be no wonder that it only took a few trees for him to find the exact one I needed. He must have sized me up pretty quick. He says he prefers working with the picky customers anyway because he knows they appreciate the trees even more. He’s right… which is why we bought our tree there last year as well.

I only had to pull the lights off the tree and restart the lighting process once which is amazing. I only yelled at Ethan once and only had to re-hang a few ornaments when the kids weren’t looking. So I call that a win.

And, now for the pictures!!

Did you think I was joking?

Ignore the small, slouching child who refused to move so this picture could be taken.

Not too shabby, hmm? More pics here.

    Your decorations look amazing.

But, um, why are you all wearing hats and scarves and stuff???

  2. Miss Britt says:

Oh – and, I forgot to add – I’d like to request a photo of what this all looks like during the day.

It would be very useful as part of my desensitivity training for yard decor with no snow.

I am so unhappy right now. With being in Washington State last week I am now a week behind in Christmas decorating.

  4. DutchBitch says:

Hmmm all of you guys are SO putting me in holiday mood already… :lmfao:

  5. Chickie says:

Wow, you guys go all out. We just do lights on the house. I’m trying to talk Sweety into lighting the place up like an airport runway but he won’t do it.

I can’t wait to decorate – I am just itching to get it done. But because Brenden’s birthday is on the 1st of December, we always wait until after that, so he doesn’t feel like his big day is lost in the Christmas rush. So that means I have to wait a whole ‘nuther week!

    Very Nice!
We don’t put decorations on the outside in our neighborhood. They would be gone the next day…

  8. Amy says:

Miss B – it was chilly.

TrishK – Ack!!! We can’t have that!!! I wonder if you can hire an elf?

DutchBitch – Really? Well then… MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Chickie – Withhold sex and start shopping on Ebay.

Crazy – I hear ya. Ethan’s birthday is on the eleventh, but I just can’t wait THAT long…

Geek – Sounds like our old neighborhood. :banghead:

Do you spray fake snow on your real tree? Why not just get a fake tree with frosted branches?

The front of the house looks awesome! Yours is the type of house that I would steal from when I was a kid.

  10. Amy says:

That is the BEST you could do? This was the “oh-so awesome comment” you promised me?

I don’t like fake trees and we did the flocking this year to change things up a bit and to help prevent it from drying out since it sits near one of the vents.

Just gorgeous!!! We’re cleaning out the garage this weekend ’cause all the X-Mas is buried but we’ll be whooping it up big too.

…and what a pretty tree. I love it that you start early. Too many bahumbugs out there waiting til the last minute :-)

  12. Chickie says:

Oh rats. I’m already withholding sex and shopping on eBay. I may just have to twist his ear til he gives in.

You’re outside decorations are lovely and the tree is devine (BTW the slouching little kid is adorable!)

My decorations outside include icicles and a groovy strobe light ball that blinks.
