I’ve Been Told…

that if you have a question the internet is the place to get advice. At least it seems to work that way for Miss B. So, I guess I’ll give it a shot. See if you can come through for me, will ya?

My husband and I have a very important anniversary coming up in May. Ok, perhaps it’s not world-shaking or anything, but, it’s important to us. 10 long years… quite the milestone. Of course, we’ve been together longer than that, but the agreement I have with him is that we only celebrate one anniversary. Not the anniversary of our first date, kiss, or uh, you know, but our wedding anniversary. Can’t blame a girl for trying, right?

We spent our honeymoon in Santa Barbara and Solvang. We spent our 5th anniversary in Solvang and Cambria. Two very memorable and wonderful trips, but it’s painfully obvious that we only get away once every five years, which means we’d like this trip to be something special.

While many people might be planning an extended vacation of some sort, I’m just hoping to get away for a weekend. One romantic weekend, preferably on the central California coast but, I’m up for almost any suggestion. Including a cozy, romantic cabin if there is a decent bar and restaurant within a short walking distance.

We’d prefer some form of night life with the obvious exception of vampires and zombies. A cozy bar that stays open late. It seems like Cambria shuts down with the exception of one (now closed) bar around 6pm.

And, we’d like something that is more adult and less “family” atmosphere, I suppose.

Tell me, internet, where would you spend a romantic weekend in California?

    Florida!

I’ll even let you have sex in my house on the actual day of your anniversary if you come here.

I hear people in California like to go to “wine country” for a romantic weekend away.

Miss Britt – Florida isn’t IN California!

Avi – Thought about it. Have you been there? I never have.

Em – Actually, Cambria, Solvang, Santa Barbara, those are all technically considered roughly to be in “wine country.”

We never made it, no. But we heard from many friends how fun it was.

Or you could go to the Sea Mountain Inn, where we spent our first anniversary and discovered that it was clothing optional: http://www.seamountaininn.com/

  8. I recommend Cabo San Lucas or Isla Mujeres. Isla is across from Cancun, and it’s relatively uninhabited. It’s small and beautful, no major partiers, and just absolutely beautiful. And it doesn’t cost a lot.

I agree with RW. Hub and I went to Monterey during our honeymoon and would have stayed there had San Francisco not been calling to us. We LOVED LOVED LOVED the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Not being a CA person myself, I can’t give a lot of advise, but I have been to both Catalina and Monterey, and I liked them both, but Monterey was the best – I think that it has everything you are looking for in a romantic :sex011: weekend.

For me the key, in what you said, was not so much of a “family” atmosphere. Disneyland is for kids. Monterey is where grownups go.

Avi – uh, hmmm… nope, I think clothing required is probably better for us.

The Absurdist – Checking that out, thanks!!

Miss Britt – I’d prefer not to have to fly.

Laura – How’s the night life? Are there decent (possibly cute, cozy) bars or restaurants with bars that stay open late? Cambria is as far north as I have been where California coast is concerned.

Crazy Lady – Thank you!!!! Seriously! Seems like a lot of people really like Monterey. Did you spend any time in Carmel?

Geek – Exactly!!! Ummm… well, except the

:sex007: part… but then again, it’s an anniversary so who knows!!

RW – Exactly!!! I’m wanting semi-quiet, casual, relaxed grown up atmosphere.

Tense – Nothing!!! Just, you know… uh, I think we were wanting a little privacy and less ummm… blood sucking and brain eating. Know what I mean?

OK… so if you really want to travel… I have some suggestions in the Napa/Sonoma area that I love… but they can be kind of spendy…

If you want central… I hear the Madonna Inn can be both fun and romantic

Being from Santa Barbara, I would say go back there. There is a lovely Four Seasons hotel on Channel Dr. that we used to go to for the weekend just to get away from the family and kids.

You have State Street to peruse or you can wander to Carpenteria (where I went to School) and wander the cutsie foo foo little shops and bars on Linden Ave.

I tend to wander State St. when I go back because there is no shortage of little bars with plenty of entertainment for late nights.
