Dreaming of Freddie

Posted By AmyD. on April 9, 2009

I was knee deep in chicken stir fry the other night when my cell phone went off.

“That’s life… that’s what all the people say…” Sinatra crooned from the top of my desk.

Ethan came around the corner with my cell phone in his hand, “Hey, mom! It’s Chickie!”

Chickie. *snort*

Both Ethan and Kate refuse to call her by her real name because they swear it doesn’t suit her. At all. Which is hysterical and probably telling because they certainly don’t refer to Kari as Crazy Lady.

Of course, I really hope this doesn’t bother Chickie, really, there is nothing wrong with her real name, it’s a very nice, sensible name. But, her personality is just too big for it and thus she is forever in our hearts as Chickie, lovely, tequila shooting, pickle eating, Chickie.

Although, she swears she is laying off tequila for a while, but I’m willing to bet that as soon as those rug burns on her elbows heal up she’ll be right back in there with the best of us them.

freddie_mercuryThe night before Ethan had been doing his Freddie Mercury impersonation. It’s hysterical and a little sad. After all, who doesn’t miss Freddie Mercury? And, if you don’t… then kindly refrain from answering.

I posted a pic on Twitter of Ethan in all his Freddie-ness and this gave Chickie some very freaky dreams. In fact, she had to have several drinks before calling me to tell me about her dream.

And, now I’ll let out my dirty little secret. I suck at the phone. Unless I’m terribly tipsy or making some sort of stick-up-my-ass business call, I really don’t do phones well. Especially since I worry I’m going deaf or something and then sometimes it’s hard to hear clearly through a cell phone and well, lots of “ands” and excuses.

So I stutter, stammer, etc. I have phone numbers, I have people who might like to talk to me… it’s not that I don’t want to talk to them… in fact, if I’m in the zone, I talk a lot and I can almost be interesting to talk to.

I think I might be one of those people that comes off better in text format. Like text messaging, email, or twittering.

Ethan as FreddieAnyway, so now I can’t quite recall what Chickie’s dream was about but I think my son might have traumatized her in some way.

I’m no good on the phone either… my mind always wanders after a couple of minutes and then I lose track of the conversation – even if it’s a really interesting one – and find the whole thing a bit tedious. Some days are worse than others, but at my best I can only manage about 10 minutes on the phone!

I find it funny how some people’s names don’t match them. It seems like those people always end up with a nickname.
Ethan looks hilarious! :) I bet that is fun to watch.

I heart Freddie. We had the DVD of Queen’s “Live at Wembley” concert and we WORE IT OUT, so we had to buy another copy.

See also, here. Scroll down towards the bottom to see my (then) three year old grandson doing HIS Freddy impersonation.

I’m thinking Ethan has a future on the Vegas Strip as a Freddie impersonator.

hahahahahaha! I had scrubbed that dream from memory til now! Gay serial killer. ’nuff said.

I suck at the phone too. I’m afraid of “dead air” (maybe it’s that the job I’ve been at for over 7 years seriously frowns on any silence on the line?) and am tempted to chatter like a loon to avoid it.

I do remember that you are a nice conversation!

Heh, I came thisclose to calling you yesterday after LB and I had our “bird” talk.

Pictures are great but I think you need to do a video of Ethan as “Freddie Mercury”! Who knows he might just get discovered! :rotflmao:
