Still Breathing…

So what am I averaging now? One post a month? Two maybe?

Time flies when you’re doing life stuff, man. What can I say?

4th of July came and went, we’ve been entertaining at home almost constantly. When you cook the way we do and can put out the caliber of food that Mike can (award winning! Hello!) you just don’t go out as much. Which is nice because it usually means that when we do go out it’s for pizza with the family or just a quiet salad, appetizers and margaritas for Mike and I. It’s nice.

Plus it’s summer which means that at any given time I can have as many as 4 teenage boys in my house sleeping on couches, chairs, floors, etc. Then there are the girls popping in and out in between family vacations. And, I’ve never made any secret about being one of the few parents who prefers vacations to the time of year when school is in session. I love being around my kids, they are my favorite people.

Most of all I love lazy summer schedules, Saturday breakfasts start at noon and often finds Ethan or I at the stove whipping out breakfast burritos or cowboy potatoes. There are no bed times and no set rules aside from chores having to be done before they run off with friends or have friends over.

We’re in the middle of a triple digit heat wave so I am enjoying my zinnias from a distance unless I sneak out in the late evening and cut them to fill a couple of vases inside the house.

I guess that’s a long-winded way of saying that there is nothing exciting going on and not much in the way of humorous anecdotes. Maggie is still Maggie, only she’s refusing to go to school. She is so confident in her decision that it’s making me very nervous.

Ethan remains cancer free and is doing well. He’s running again and getting very excited about his senior year of high school.

Kate was accepted to all GATE classes in high school! I’m beyond excited and proud of her. She is really looking forward to her freshman year.

I’m trying to get used to the idea of going back into the world of lunch boxes and parent teacher conferences. Neither of which sound appealing.

Mike is beginning to prep for the next BBQ competition by perfecting his pork shoulder, ribs, and brisket.

The world doesn’t seem to slow down or stop for any of us and I suppose if you don’t keep jogging along you might fall off. I guess I’ve fallen off the blogosphere and am trying to decide if I want to keep jogging or not. I’m guess what I might do is swing back in full-time again once Maggie is up and running at school.

But, enough about me. Obviously, I haven’t been getting around to much (okay, NONE) blog reading, so how are you doing?

I’m so glad you’re doing well. We are all doing fine in Indiana. Joseph has finished his freshman year at college – heading back in the fall for his sophomore. Rachael will be starting her senior year. Daniel will be starting his freshman year, and Aaron will be in the 4th grade. I’m going back to school, obviously. And Steven and I are doing great!

I believe it stands for Gifted and Talented Education. In other words, they think she’s super smart! and thank you!

Did you know there is a whole “Bar B Q Circuit”? I was unaware of that until the other day. I watched a competition on food network. I want to be a judge now. Speaking of judges, they said you have to take classes to even be a judge.

Yes, I do know that. We go with the competitions sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. And, Mike and my dad are supposed to take those classes so they can get the judges take on competitions. There is a lot more to it than just showing up and cooking good grub! :groovy:

It’s hard to find time to blog when the children are home for the summer. I think a lot of us mother’s are having a hard time to just be able to relax without the worries or stress of having to post something just so others do not worry!
Enjoy your summer and your kids.

Summer schedule is the best. We’re a big fan of breakfast at lunchtime around here too.

Way to go, Kate! Stay smart – it will take you places!

LMAO @ Maggie’s certainty that school isn’t for her. I bet she’ll be the Queen Bee of the classroom.

Obviously seeing as how I just realized you had a new post up today (a week after you posted it), I’ve been incredibly lazy!

I’m so happy to hear that all of you kids are doing great. And I was going to invite myself over to dinner (if I was ever in CA), but then you talked about heat. I don’t like heat. maybe I’ll wait until winter :nyah:

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
