Baby, It’s Christmas

Posted By on December 23, 2008

Amy Grant wrote this song with her husband Vince Gill. She explained to Billboard magazine: “On ‘Baby It’s Christmas,’ Vince was kind of messing around with those chords and it just sounded romantic. We wrote that over a cup of coffee one morning. I don’t think anybody really thinks about Christmas Eve as being the most romantic time, especially if you have children, because you are exhausted. But if you could have a very romantic Christmas Eve, what would it be like?”

Children are sleeping
tucked in their beds
the Night before Christmas
has finally been read

Everything’s quiet under the tree
Baby, it’s Christmas for you and for me

Let’s light a candle
put on some tunes
we’ve got til morning
to kiss and to spoon

I know you’re weary
we could both use some sleep
but, baby it’s Christmas
for you and for me.

Close your eyes darlin’
I’ll tell you when
I know you’re wonderin’
how much did I spend?

Let’s start unwrapping
ribbons and lace
I see the want to
all over your face

I’ll always give you your favorite things
Baby, it’s Christmas for you and for me.

I have to admit, after listening to this song, I wasn’t wanting to wait until Christmas Eve for alone time with my husband. I have a lot of great memories over the years with Mike. Lots of late nights on Christmas Eve, assembling toys, arranging stockings, and prepping Christmas Day dinners.

But, my favorite memories are the few Christmases that all the work was done and we were exhausted and 2am was ticking it’s way into the night. We sat on the couch, curled up together, looking at the tree that was swimming in presents and the bulging stockings hanging off the mantle and we took a deep sigh knowing the kids would have us up in just a few hours. In the sparkling lights from the Christmas tree and the remnants of the fire burning down we just enjoyed each other and the quiet that filled the house. It’s those memories that make me believe that Christmas might just be the most romantic holiday of the year.

I love coming home from Christmas Eve at the in-laws and attempting to put the kids to bed. Once everyone is asleep, Travis and I have fun bringing presents out and filling up stockings. Then we put on some stupid TV show and we just relax on the couch for awhile. I hope you have a fabulous Christmas Eve tomorrow!!
