Don’t Shoot the Messenger!

I keep a little link in my bookmark bar on Firefox… it’s “Santa’s Official Countdown to Christmas” I’m sure there are tons of these out there, but for whatever reason Kate bookmarked this one. Just for fun I clicked on it and realized that there are only 128 day until Christmas. WOW. The year just sort of whizzed by, didn’t it?
Last Friday we took Maggie to CALM. If I were an animal living at CALM I would sort of be offended by the whole, “Living Museum” part of the name. Kinda crappy sounding, isn’t it? It’s sort of funny because their URL is www.calmzoo.org – so which are you? A zoo or a museum, hmmm????
I don’t know, but museum sure makes it sound like they are waiting for animals to die to me. Considering the heat last Friday and how most of the animals looked (read: miserable!) it sure looked like they were most of the way there.

Yogi (Boo Boo had probably already keeled over from heatstroke)

Maggie making sure the porcupine was still breathing.

Just think this “desert” creature gets to live in a climate controlled environment. Fat bastard.

This would NOT be a climate controlled environment. Doesn’t he look happy? Probably plotting to kill a snake and take over an aquarium.

The view… aka “torturing the animals with a nearby body of water they cannot use.”

After CALM we went to Chuy’s. Maggie started to tell me all about sharks and how she really didn’t like them because she watched shark attacks (she calls them “shark bites”) during Shark Week on the Discovery channel. I said, “So you really don’t like sharks?” She said, “No way!!!” So I pointed to the shark above her head and she did a mock scream and giggled. That kid totally gets irony.

She looks so cute sitting there. You’re a good mom to tromp around a zoo in the heat.

BTW, I totally hate you for the Christmas countdown. You completely threw me off with all the cute pics of animals and little kids.

That’s what the Alligator Farm is like here – there is this baby bear there and it just looks so damn sad and pathetic. Even Emma says “I think that bear wants his mommy”.
It’s not like those animals have climate control in the wild, though. At least here they have shelter from rain and inclement weather.
The zoo here is like that too. The animals look so uncomfortable when it gets hot.
you left out the part where you brought all those animals home and now they’re living in your house, aren’t you?
I haven’t been to Calm in Eons. Thanks for the Update.
Maggie looks like she had fun.

No, I didn’t bring any home! LOL
Actually, no, animals don’t have climate control in the wild, HOWEVER, these bears live at higher elevations where they are not subjected to triple digit heat. In their actual wild natural environment – they wouldn’t deal with the conditions they deal with at this zoo. Same goes for the raccoons.
While these animals are indigenous to California (not just here, but you get my point) there are areas of California more appropriate for them.
Unfortunately, the animals at CALM have been injured or dependent on humans for their entire lives and cannot function in the wild.
The little zoo we have here in Vegas is the same way. They take in abandoned or harmed animals, and they do their best, but sometimes it is just obvious that the poor animal does not like the heat!
128 days until Christmas!!! Ugh!!!
I totally thought Maggie was squirting mustard towards the ceiling! Then I saw the top edge of the balloon!
