Inflatable Thoughts
Posted By AmyD. on September 15, 2010
My recent immersion into all things SOA (Sons of Anarchy) has left me little brain space to think about upcoming holidays and anyone who knows me knows that I am usually obsessed with the holidays.
On a side note though, was it just me or are those Irish guys on SOA particularly brutal? At least stateside when they take someone out (like poor Donna who got it by mistake instead of Opie) it’s a bullet to the head not a strangling over a church pew like Cameron the kidnapper got in the latest episode. Okay, so enough with the SOA for now.
We were over at Lowe’s the other day and they had some pretty cool Halloween home decor, most if was inflatable, I’m still not completely sold on this new trend for holiday decorations. But, I am sold on the one in that picture. I’m considering adding it to my outdoor Halloween decorations.
I’ve got some revamping to do with the outdoor Christmas stuff. Last year my huge reindeer that pops in and out of a gift box decided to croak on me. I was NOT happy. Also? It was inflatable, needless to say that did little for my confidence in inflatable holiday decorations. I’ve got boxes and boxes of Christmas home decor, the indoor stuff anyway… but I’m always looking to beef up the outdoor stuff. I’m not quite up to Clark Grizwold status but I’m getting there. *fingers crossed*
I always seem to skip right over Thanksgiving. That’s more about the food anyway. November around here is just sort of that time when I wait for the right time to start decorating for Christmas. Too early and you look like a freak, too late and you just look lazy. It’s a fine line I walk. I’ve got some great Autumn stuff that I use from September to November, October I punch it up with the Halloween stuff. But, November I like to jazz it up a bit with candles, lots of Autumn foliage, and a Thanksgiving tablecloth or runner… no turkeys in little pilgrim hats though. I can totally do without that.
So are is anyone out there having any luck with this inflatable holiday stuff?
And, I do know one thing that is going to be a welcome distraction from SOA… the way this blog looks. Yuck. It’s going to have a major change of looks here VERY soon.

I was against the blow up stuff at first. But I want it now so my neighbor can walk around, all pissed off, in its gaudy shadow. Sweety still isn’t on board with my plan.

I have always been against the inflatable stuff. There is a house around here that has about 10 of them in the front yard every Christmas with no rhyme, reason, or theme. I’m picky. If I put a Santa Claus in my front yard – then I only have ONE Santa Claus because, like Highlander, there can be only one.
LOVE Sons of Anarchy. Scares my mother that I love such things…. then I watch SLEEPING BEAUTY and all is right with the world.
And inflatable decorations are awesome, but how are they on taking up space?

LOL Sleeping Beauty… and here I thought you’d be more of a Snow White or Bedknobs and Broomsticks kind of gal.
Oh and on the space thing? Storing them they take up very little space, they sort of squash down like those Space Bag things, sort of. And when in use it just depends on how big of one you have. Like Kari said – you have to tether them really well (and I added tethers to mine in addition to the tethers that come with them) or yeah, big windstorm means you are chasing your gingerbread man (ironically) down the street.
We had an inflatable snow globe that the kids thought was the coolest – I though it was a pain in my butt because it always blew over. But as long as it made holiday memories for my kids, I was happy.

I have an inflatable gingerbread man, he’s about 4 feet tall. I like the inflatables as accents, mixed in around other stuff. I have to admit, those snow globe inflatables are pretty cute.
When October comes around, it’s time to show the outside world a bit of spirit by preparing for Halloween with outdoor decorations. There are many different ways to do this, and most of them are quite simple; there’s no need to resort to major home renovations.
