Is There Such A Thing?

Posted By on May 29, 2008

Ok, I readily admit, I’m a foodie. I love food. Good food. Old school, gourmet, barbecue, Asian, Mexican… from biscuits and gravy to quiche or sushi.

But, the other day I was chatting with Crys (OMG, have you visited that site? Did you get a reading? WHY NOT!?!?! Do it NOW!) and we were talking about drinks. It was that moment that I had an epiphany, I’m a drinkie too! And, if that isn’t a thing, then it’s an Amy-ism and I can TOTALLY use it.

I like beer, but I’m more on the high-end of that one. Microbrews. You won’t catch me with a Bud Light or Coors Light in my hand. Blech. I love the flavor, I love how it goes with certain foods. I love drinking them and figuring out what different things I’m tasting in them.

I love tequila. I wouldn’t have said that a couple of years ago after a bad, bad night on Cuervo. But, I’m a convert now. I love Patron and Cazadores. Cuervo is ok if I’m making Margaritas. Hornitos isn’t bad either… but it falls below Cazadores.

Vodka is awesome. It’s so versatile! I love a good Bloody Mary with an extra shot of Tabasco and Worcestershire. Although, I had one really, really bad evening doing lemon drop shots. This would be when one takes lemon wedges, rolls them in sugar, shoots Vodka and then sucks on the sugar covered lemon wedge. Delicious. As long as you don’t have too many.

In the winter I like Colorado Bulldogs. This is 3/4 shot Vodka, 3/4 shot Kahlua, 1/2 & 1/2 (cream) and then top with Coke. OMG. Soooo good. Butterball shots go well with this… 1/2 Irish Creme Liquor and 1/2 Butterscotch schnapps. I think, were Starbuck’s to make a shot, the Butterball would probably be it. I also like whiskey in the winter. But, only Maker’s Mark, over ice. It’s niiiiiiiice.

I also love gin martinis, very dry, shaken. It’s a totally clean, sugar-less buzz that almost never causes a hangover. But, they aren’t very good for hot weather. In the summer I like Grass Skirts occasionally. 1 1/2 oz. gin, 1 oz Cointreau or Triple Sec, 1 ounce pineapple juice, 1/2 tsp grenadine. AWESOME.

When I’m feeling very tropical and whatnot, I love a Bahama Mama. Rum, Malibu Rum, 99 Bananas and pineapple juice. OMG. HEAVEN in a glass… with or without the little umbrella.

See? I think this makes me a drinkie. The first person to say, “No, that makes you an alcoholic, will guarantee themselves a full castration with a rusty spoon.”

That’s interesting. I just discovered three words I don’t like seeing in one sentence – castration and Rusty spoon.

On a side note, could someone pleeeaseee check thy email.

    Beamer

    :martini:

I cut my drinking teeth on the cheap things college kids buy: MGD by the box, and Boone’s Farm.

That probably means I’m just a lush (alcoholics go to meetings)

  3. Avitable says:

    You’re totally a drinkie!

    :toya:

  4. J.O. says:

This is why I come here, your always eager to help people out. I have been trying to figure out how to spend my kidless weekend. Now I know. :groovy:

  5. mps says:

tequila – herradura silver is to die for

  6. Lisa says:

Thanks a lot, now I’m thirsty and I’m stuck at work so can’t get anything. The bahama mama sounds delish now though and I could definitely use one after the day I’ve been having.

  7. Jen says:

My favourite drink is a Strawberry Daquari. Ya well…I don’t drink much!

  8. No margaritas? That’s my all time fave, but here lately, I’ve discovered pomegranite martinis. They are delish, and they kick my hiney! :martini:

  9. Trishk says:

How about frozen Strawberry Daquiri, rum, 99 Bananas, ice mixed in a blender. Then mix in Breyers Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Pour into your glass, add the straw with teh Meyers floater inside it and then float in the pool and be happy!!

  10. Crazy Lady says:

Ok you alcoholic… Kidding! Kidding! But I don’t have balls, so you can’t castrate me. neener neener! :hide:
As long as we are sharing drink recipies, Orange juice, orangecello, sprite and grenadine. They go down so smooooooooth! :martini:

  11. Amy says:

Beamer: I love it when I can make a cringe worthy statement.

Marissa: This is true. Worse yet, if you go to meetings then clearly you are a quitter and we all know that quitters are no fun at all!

Avitable: You’re afraid of the spoon, aren’t you?

J.O.: I am TOTALLY here to help. That is my goal, the more people I can convince to drown their sorrows or celebrate a kid-less weekend the happier I am. It’s my way of spreading the joy.

    :wine:

mps says: Really? I am definitely going to try that!! Thanks for the recommendation!

Lisa: Bahama Mamas are the BOMB. Very tropical. Man… makes me glad I work from home. Only the hubby frowns upon a drunken wife as a co-worker. Can you believe that?

Jen: Especially now, huh? The only downside to pregnancy. Well, that and the leg cramps, right? Ugh. When you are no longer incubating you should try a Bahama Mama, if you like Daiquiris you love that one!

Tense Teacher: Oops. I can’t believe I missed those. Yes, yes! I love margaritas. There is a mexican restaurant around here that makes a “Patio Margarita” it’s a traditional margarita with a splash of cranberry. OMG… so good. Ooo, I need the recipe for your latest drink infatuation!!!

Trishk: OMG. That sounds AMAZING. Cheers!! :martini:

  12. Amy says:

Crazy Lady: :rotflmao: Good point. :pttpth: That sounds AWESOME!!! I’ll have to give that a try.

  13. DutchieStyle says:

I personally see myself responsible for insuring jobs at every vodka distillery in the world. I like to look at it as my contribution to society as a whole! :martini:

  14. Amy says:

DutchieStyle – Good for you! So what Vodka do you recommend and what is your favorite drink? Come on… don’t be shy, share with the class!

  15. Marissa says:

    :wine: :martini:
Work from home is great. I’ve worked in my robe before, wine in one hand, and a bag of chocolate in the other.
    And they’ll never know!

  16. Chickie says:

A drinkie? I like that. I usually say that I’m a lush but I like drinkie way better!

  17. Tori says:

I’m a “shotty”… I am always willing to try new shot recipes… even the ones that make people cringe… I love “German Chocolate Cake” shots and “Oatmeal Cookie” shots… and honestly, my opinion… a martini is just a giant shot in a fancy glass!!! :martini:

  18. Amy says:

Marissa – I like your style!

Chickie – Lush just sounds so harsh, doesn’t it? I prefer drinkie, it makes us sound like we put some thought behind it. :smooch:

Tori – A shotty!!! That’s AWESOME. I love shots too. Butterballs are my favorite… but OMG – you MUST send me the recipes for those shots you mentioned!!!! :greatone:

  19. Lisa says:

I work at home too so technically I COULD be drinking right now, but then when I answer the phone for customers they might propositioned or something. You never know what will come out of my mouth when I’ve been drinking

  20. jewelz says:

    I’m a drinkie too!!!! :toya:
    My faves include:
Red Rockets: 1 shot cherry vodka, cranberry juice, 7-Up, and RedBull…mmmmmm, tasty!

Jamaican Reds: 2 shots Malibu rum, cranberry juice, and 7-Up.

    Bacardi Limon and cranberry juice

And one I made up…vanilla vodka, cranberry juice, and sprite.

Hmmm….at least I won’t get any bladder infections while I’m drinking!

And of course, pina coladas, margueritas, amaretto sours, captain n’ cokes, and any other girly drink that comes with accoutrements like fruit on the rim, colored sugar, umbrellas, r floating maraschino cherries!!!!

  21. Amy says:

Lisa – my mother swears that tequila is like truth serum for her. I cannot be relied on to keep my mouth shut if I’ve been drinking… so I totally feel your pain. :sly:

Jewelz – I like your style. Verrrrry nice! Those red rockets sound AWESOME.
