What Are You Watching?

Posted By on January 19, 2011

My week started out with such a bang, I mean, if the traditional meaning of “bang” is something to the effect of, “around 4pm I discovered my underwear was on inside out.”

And it was.

Monday night was greatly improved by watching episode 2 of “The Cape” on NBC – I’m diggin’ this show tremendously and so I fully expect it to not have a season 2 because that is just how it goes with stuff I really, really, like. I’m not being pessimistic or negative I’m just being a tad bitter after having my heart smooshed by the canceling of Terriers on FX.

And, of course, I followed it up with another brand new hour-long show, Harry’s Law starring Kathy Bates and you KNOW what that means, right? Oh yes, twice the heartache. It’s quick, it’s witty, it’s funny and it has heart AND smarts.

Terriers - Hank and BritI refuse to get attached. Refused. I’m going to watch it and enjoy it and relish the great times we shared together when it is gone. Just… *sniff* like I do *sniff* with Terriers. Awww, Hank… why did you have to go and leave me all alone wondering if you took Brit to prison or if you guys ran off to Mexico after all?!?!! *sob*

For the record, I cannot believe I am blogging about television. Seriously. It’s an electronic doo-hickey that literally sucks your brain cells right out of your head from your comfy perch on the couch and YET… it has me. From Paula Deen to Sons of Anarchy (Yippee! Katey Sagal won a well-deserved Golden Globe!!!) and now… The Cape.

Could be worse, if it weren’t for Harry’s Law, I’d still be trapped watching Hawaii Five-0 with Mike who is clearly trying to recapture his “Book ‘em, Danno” youth. While I do love Scott Caan, because he looks so much like his dad and I honestly emit a *squee* over Jimmy Caan – Hawaii Five-0 has got to be the cheesiest hour of television ever… and NO, I do not count reality shows because I just don’t watch them. At. All. If I did – then I certainly would not be attributing the status of #1 Cheese-Fest to the weekly platter of Five-0.

Which brings up my current dilemma… While I am watching “The Cape” and “Harry’s Law” I am happily missing Five-0 but sadly, I am also missing “Two and a Half Men” (s’okay, that show is soooo safe I waited like 4 seasons in before I started watching it) and “Mike and Molly.” Mike and Molly is a newbie and thus, I just cannot get attached to it either so I’m left to choose between newbies! I’m sure that it is exactly like a mother with newborn twins being asked to choose her favorite. Yes, I know… DVR and “On-Demand” the technological answer to everything except that pesky twin issue.

Still, I LOVE Mike and Molly although, I have to admit to being terrified at the slightly-skeletal sight of Swoosie Kurtz. Remember the show “Sisters?” I loved that show and that is how I remember Swoosie and yet, it took me an entire episode of Mike and Molly before it clicked who was playing Molly’s mom. Allow me to show you…

Swoosie Kurtz - Mike and Molly

Now I know, people age, I get that. But surely you can see why I might have been a little shocked. And, if she’s sort of altered her appearance to go with the character… then she’s done a great job. I’m going to shut up before my foot goes any further into my mouth.

I didn’t get into “Heroes” or the “super hero” sort of show prior to this at all, but we caught the pilot episode of The Cape last Sunday when there wasn’t anything else interesting to watch and we just sort of got hooked. Mike and I recently caught up on the IronMan movies – and that might have helped our enthusiasm since we were already in that super hero sort of mood.

I want to see The Cape.

The only reason Two and a Half Men made it so far is because I don’t watch it. Sweety and I are new show killers too.

Let me know what you think of The Cape. I’m sure you can probably watch entire episodes online at this point. There are only two – so catch up!!!

And, bwahahaha, I was trying to steer clear of calling myself a television show jinx but yeah, I am totally a new show killer. *sob* Terriers…
