Word To Your… *ahem* Mother

Posted By on June 29, 2007

I adore my son – that’s plainly obvious. I’ve even been accused of putting him on a pedestal. Can you blame me? He seriously rocks.

But, know who else rocks? My silent-but-deadly daughter…

While the men in the house prefer Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, etc. The girls prefer whatever suits their whim at the moment. That might very well include Bowling For Soup, Soul Coughing, Avril Lavigne, Nickelback, Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr., Amy Grant, The Carpenters, Bing Crosby, Rick Springfield, Frankie Valli… you get the point.

So, after Kate mentioned to me that she liked Rick Springfield (women my age and older are beginning to swoon at the very sound of the name, I know) specifically, Jesse’s Girl – I just knew that she would appreciate the music that I listened to at her age!

Including, but not limited to:

Don’t Forget Me When I’m Gone – Glass Tiger
Take On Me – Aha
Footloose – Kenny Loggins
Let’s Hear It For The Boy – Daniece Williams (Footloose Soundtrack)
I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight – Glass Tiger
Breakout – Swing Out Sister
Don’t Wanna Fall In Love – Jane Child
Catch Me I’m Falling – Pretty Poison
Head Over Heels – Tears For Fears
Everybody Wants To Rule The World – Tears For Fears
Policy of Truth – Depeche Mode
Waiting For A Star To Fall – Boy Meets Girl

Guess what? She does! And, they are all on her iPod right now!

And, over $3,000.00 has been raised to help NYCWD - if you can, help us out because it all ends this Sunday so Avitable can get the funds to him. I’m still so impressed and proud of this community let’s give it one more push for the weekend, please?

ooooh, a-ha! Oh, how I loved the lead singer, Morten :sex014: My 5 year old happily bops around the house to old 80′s faves!!!

  2. DeeJay says:

    Rock on Sister!

Rick Springfield…saw him in Vegas about 5 years ago….he was out in the audience just a mere table away….I almost passed out. :o hgreatone:

  3. buepaintred says:

i want an ipod :sex014: And your daughters music selection…and does she have the WHOLE footloose soundtrack on it, or just the one song?

  4. y not i says:

I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight was Cutting Crew, not Glass Tiger.
It would be really nice if I could use my brain for worthwhile things, like plotting world domination, rather than obscure 80′s pop trivia.

  5. ~kat says:

    Oh ah!! the memories!

  6. Good choices!

I was in an 80s kind of mood last night too… I listened to LOTS of Duran Duran, George Michael (before he started whipping it out in public), INXS, Eurythmics.

    Silent but deadly?

  8. Amy says:

    Sam :cheesy:

DeeJay That’s pretty cool! I think the guy his hotter now than he was in the 80′s

BluePaintRed She has Footloose and Let’s Hear It For The Boy. I had the cassette soundtrack when I was in 5th or 6th grade and I wore that thing out!

y not i Now that I think of it, that does sound right. But the song came up when I downloaded it as being by Glass Tiger so I just went with it. LOL

kat Almost makes you want to go dig out your stretch pants and really wide belts, doesn’t it?

Tense Teacher Kate has WHAM! on her Ipod too! It’s so funny there is a radio station here and one night a week they play all 80′s music and sometimes they do funky remixes – so Kate’s been listening to all of this stuff lately it’s sooooo funny!

Avi Yep. She’s the quiet one who will rip your nuts off without warning and then go off and cry about how you hurt her feelings. LOL :whosnext:

  9. avitable says:

Or she’s a really smelly fart.

  10. Amy says:

    No, that’s the other kid.

  11. Angel says:

Wow…you took me on a flashback!! I think I need to go tease my hair now. (BTW…I love all of those songs too :) )

  12. RW says:

No head banger I, but I was around when Ten Years After cut its first album.

That list contains three “guilty pleasures” of mine. But I’m not tellin…

  13. Crazy Lady says:

My daughter also loves the music from when I was a kid. And she loves showtunes. One of my best nights was when she and I had to run errands, and we sang the soundtrack to Chicago – and she new it word for word.

  14. Miss Britt says:

Why didn’t you mention the fact that she is thin and cute and has perky boobs? :eyebrow:

  15. Joefish says:

Jane Child! I haven’t thought of her in years. She’s the essence of one-hit wonder. She had one single, which rocketed to #1, then she dropped off the face of the Earth.

  16. Sarcastica says:

    :o mg:

I like a lot of those songs too :)

  17. Mr. Fabulous says:

I practically wore that Footloose soundtrack out back in the day.

  18. Jacki says:

I work with a some staff that are early 20′s and they had never heard of half of these bands, so I made it my task to educate them. I had song of the day where I would get on youtube and pick a song and make them listen.
A-ha and Adam Ant were prominent.
Rick Springfield is touring here next month – squee!!

  19. Erica AP says:

I literally just copy and pasted that list into an email for myself to buy on itunes. Nice……

  20. webmiztris says:

omg, that is the scariest list of songs I’ve ever seen. I don’t do 80s! Crazy Me I’m Falling? lmfao!

  21. DutchBitch says:

Alrightie! Sounds like that girl is gonna be as cool as her Mom… just don’t tell her, LOL

  22. Peter says:

Glass Tiger! I thought they were a purely Canadian thing.

(I actually saw them in concert in, like, 1990.)
